How will an education advocate / consultant help you?
Horizon Family Solutions offers educational advocacy / consulting and planning for K - 12. We assist with advising for summer programs, advocacy for students with special needs, IEP's, intervention for at-risk students, residential boarding school selection, and consultation for the selection of independent living opportunities for young adults.
For the at-risk population, our role is to gather as much pertinent information as possible about a child and then plan for behavioral, educational and therapeutic interventions appropriate to the child's and family's goals, desires and needs. We travel continually throughout the U.S. visiting and evaluating programs and schools when an out-of-district placement may be needed or recommended. We keep current with the student population mix, educational and therapeutic program offerings and staff changes at hundreds of programs and schools.
Horizon Family Solutions regularly engages in follow-up with our families and the children we have placed, to better understand fundamentals such as communication, efficacy of treatment, emotional safety, etc.
What can Horizon Family Solutions do within the public school special education system?
We can serve as an advocate for you and your special needs student during the IEP evaluation and planning process. We help identify and prioritize your student's needs and explore quality options that best serve your student. We can help improve the total quality learning situation for your child.
We assist parents:
- By attending explusion, suspension, IEP and/or school meetings
- By giving general advice and recommendations based on the current situation
- By recommending educational, treatment and therapy options
- In working with their school to develop an appropriate education plan for their child
